Dumbarton Castle Prints

DKL18 currently has available for purchase, limited edition prints of Dumbarton Castle. These paintings were originally produced by the landscape painter John Knox. Here below, are samples showing views of Dumbarton Castle from the east and the west (and do not reflect the superior quality of the actual prints):

The life of John Knox is almost undocumented. He was born in Paisley in 1778, the son of a yarn merchant and the family moved to Glasgow in 1779. He became a pupil of Alexander Naismith and studied under him, copying his style in many regards. Records show that he lived at 40 Dunlop Street, Glasgow, where he advertised himself as a 'Teacher of Drawing'. It was, however, as a landscape painter and engraver that his reputation grew. He painted views of the River Clyde, stretching from the Broomielaw to Greenock, the two shown above forming part of his most important works. The Steamboat in the lower print has recently been identified as "The Comet".

Copies are available, with a more complete history of John Knox, from the lodge treasurer, Masonic Temple, Church Street, Dumbarton, Scotland, G82 1QQ or by contacting us via the home page.

The Cost of of purchasing this fine pair of  prints is £20.00 G.B.P. + Postage & Packing
